The wolf was “Killed by his own weight” (162) even though the wolf’s weight didn’t really kill him. Red Riding Hood and the grandmother made the wolf suffer by putting stones in his stomach so he would die a slow death. The poetic speaker, instead of blaming the grandmother and Red Riding Hood, blames the wolf because the two women are now deceiving themselves. They deceived themselves into thinking that they had nothing to do with killing the wolf and blame the wolf for his own tragic end for being a deceptive wolf.
