Even though the house was new there is "The smell of a journey” (72) which is ironic because the poetic speaker connotes “journey” (72) ,which is something long and ever lasting, to the kitchen where the smell is of a new kitchen in a new house. The poetic speaker has moved to a new house but she hasn’t moved away from the past that still haunts her. If the “worthy make a new life” (77) then she feels unworthy to make a new one. The “journey” (72) or the past, still haunt her.
