EN290: Three Analysis Essays

30% of final grade

This term, you'll be responsible for three 2-3 page essays (plus works cited--remember, MLA from top to toe!) analyzing a Bishop poem of your choice from one of the perspectives we've been examining. Your essay should have a thesis that makes an argument about the poem using the tools of literary theory, and it should be supported with detailed observations about the poem. Consider your topic sentences, your introduction and conclusions, transitions, and the style of your writing as a whole--I'll be looking for invigorating, appropriate analysis (content) as well as elegant, easy writing (form)! Finally, don't forget to use appropriate in-text citations, and give your essay an interesting, useful title. It should go without saying that proofreading and polishing of your prose is a big part of what I mean by elegant writing!
